Weddings
St Michael's is a popular venue for
weddings. Its architecture and
intimate atmosphere create a fitting
setting for the celebration of a
marriage that acknowledges that love
is a gift of God.
The Church is available to all
who want to acknowledge that, and
who wish to declare their desire to
share with each other the love God
has given them.
As a church we are excited when we are approached
by couples who desire to get
married. Our church is available for
Christian weddings. (the wedding
must be taken by a Christian
Minister – you can have your own
Pastor/Minister if they are
recognised by their own Church as a
Minister). If you don’t have one
then we can help you out or find
someone else that can. We like there
to be some form of pre marriage
preparation.
The capacity of
the Church is 100 persons. The
Church was consecrated on the 13
November 1867, replacing the
original built in 1843. The original
Church was the first consecrated
Anglican Church in Nelson and the
first too, in the
South Island
.
It has been used regularly
for worship since then.

Planning
Your Service
A
marriage service is a very personal
moment, and it is important that you
are fully involved in shaping the
service you will have on the day.
The
minister will be able to provide you
with a variety of resources from
which you can choose and write your
own material for the service.
A
few house keeping Things
The
Church is used for Sunday Services
so cleaning and flowers are done regularly. You can organise for extra flowers for your wedding.
We ask that confetti is not used as it makes a mess of the grounds. The Organ is an Historic French Organ and under no circumstances should it be moved. After the wedding please leave the Church clean and “As Found” ready for the next service.
Most couples find it helpful to have a practice before the big day, please ring or email our office so we can assure the church is available at your desired practice time.
